Employee Spotlight: Mackenzie, Sales Manager

At Barn2Door, we pride ourselves on delighting Farmers by helping them grow their business selling direct-to-market. That’s why we recently sat down with Mackenzie, an inspiring individual who is passionate about the intersection of sustainable Farm practices and feeding local communities. In this edition of our Employee Spotlight series, we’ll learn more about Mackenzie’s journey working at Barn2Door, how she’s empowering Farmers, and what advice she has for people interested in joining our growing team.

Mackenzie joined us 2½ years ago. Studying sustainable agriculture in college, her passion for spreading awareness about regenerative Farm practices, contributing to a more sustainable food system in America, and helping Farmers feed their communities is evident in her work every day. Now a Sales Manager, Mackenzie manages a team of six people assisting Farmers in growing their businesses online. In this role, she supports her team through her Farm expertise and understanding Farmer’s challenges and needs.

What brought you to Barn2Door?

The mission is what brought me here. The mission is vital for Farmers because we want them to have a sustainable business, but it’s also essential that local communities have access to a food system and can purchase from local Farms. This is what makes Barn2Door special.

How has Barn2Door changed in 2½ years?

There were ten people at Barn2Door, and we’ve grown to over eighty people now, which is crazy! In the beginning, we were tracking everything in spreadsheets, and now we have streamlined our processes and understand what works to keep us organized and focused. From engaging with Farmers through Facebook Lives in the beginning to now producing Podcasts and our Direct Conference Series every quarter, it has been exciting to see the massive amount of growth at Barn2Door!

What does a typical day look like in the job?

My team and I talk to Farms all day long! We help them understand how to build their business online and how we’re going to support them in the process. I love working with Farmers and have a passion for assisting them - that’s what’s kept me going too. The fact that it’s a start-up and a fast-paced environment keeps the job lively and fun.

What makes Barn2Door special?

Something so unique about Barn2Door is that every day we hear success stories of what works for Farms and how we’re assisting them in that process. For example, a new Farm signs up, and their website comes to fruition. After that, the first orders start to come in, and then their business takes off! To watch how we are directly impacting their Farm by assisting them in increasing sales, saving time, or accessing more customers, is exciting!

How would you describe the company culture?

The culture at Barn2Door is balanced in that everyone is here to get their work done and make sure Farmers can efficiently get online. We do like to have fun and connect through things like Trivia or company events. Everyone is so friendly and wants to get to know each other, and I think that’s pretty unique!

What is something someone who doesn’t work at Barn2Door might not realize about the company?

When looking for jobs online, you probably wouldn’t be able to see the camaraderie that employees share here. We are all working towards the same mission, and everyone strives to help Farmers succeed every day.
