How to Write the “About Us” Section on your Website

In a world where most people can’t put a face to their food, your customers are proud to know their Farmer- you! When they search for your Farm website (or send their friends and family to check it out), it’s important to communicate who you are, why you’re farming, and how your customers can engage. Use the “About Us” page to give visitors a look into your business and learn more about you, your values, and how they can place an order from your Farm.

Keep in Mind:

  • Customers aren’t looking for a novel. They’re looking for a few entertaining paragraphs about your Farm, so keep the content tight!

  • “About Us” is what you believe to be most important to your Brand. If you want to include more in-depth education about your farming practices or Farm history, consider doing it on another page.

  • Include call-to-action (CTA) buttons. It is “navigation best practices” to give your customers a next step. On your “About Us” page, offer a “Shop” button, a newsletter sign-up, or a link to another page.

With that in mind, here’s a quick outline and some prompts to get you started writing your own “About Us” page.

Telling Your Story:
An “About Us” Outline

  1. Who We Are
Let customers know where you are and introduce yourself and your team. Touch on your background, the role(s) on the Farm, and include a fun fact! Don’t forget to introduce furry or feathered characters from the Farm.

  2. What We Do
What products do you offer? What practices do you use? What makes your Farm unique and interesting? (Link to other pages, if need be).

  3. Why We Do It
Speak to the Farm’s mission. Why do you do the hard work? What inspired you initially, and what are your goals? What’s next for the Farm? This is where your values can shine! How can your customers support the Farm? What specific actions should they take? (Examples include “Buy Our Products!”, “Follow us on Facebook!” or “Subscribe to Our Newsletter!”).

Your Farm is one of a kind, and your customers want to learn all about it! The “About Us” section on your site is a chance for customers to discover more about your Farm and why they should become loyal customers. If you’re a Barn2Door customer, our team will build a custom website for your Farm, helping you implement these best practices (and more!).
